The
first year at school is a child’s most important year. To allow
children to feel more secure and comfortable in the new environment,
school hours are kept flexible for the first few weeks of the school
year.
The elementary section of PSI provides a learning program and an environment designed
to meet the individual needs of children. We try our best to integrate
modern teaching methods and materials with traditional cultural values.
The children develop in a caring and happy atmosphere based on the
principles of love and mutual respect. The school enables children to
see themselves as confident and capable learners. At the same time it
views them as individuals who learn and develop at their own pace.
Since children learn within the family as well as in school, close
contact between teachers and parents is essential.

The
primary level sees the beginning of a formal approach to school. The
basic academic subjects of Math, English, Urdu, Environmental Studies /
Social Studies, together with Computer Studies, Religion, Art, Music,
Library and Physical Education, provide a rich and stimulating
curriculum.
Teaching
methodology includes: individual instruction, whole class instruction
and group and partner activities. Acquiring the right study habits and
mastering basic academic skills are the focus in these intermediate
years. Children who have the ability and motivation to work at a faster
pace in a subject area are encouraged and challenged to do so. On the
other hand, children who proceed at a slower pace have the opportunity
to work at their own level and experience success. The right
environment combined with a progressive curriculum and innovative
teaching methods make primary school years the best at PSI.
At
primary level, activity is rarely limited to one aspect of learning.
The aim is to integrate the acquisition of skills through devising
stimulating and varied activities that involve teachers and children
doing things together. Children are made to discover in this way that
learning is enjoyable as well as rewarding. Beginning
in Transition and continuing through Class V, field trips are organized
to enable children to learn about their environment, history,
architecture and monuments.

to 14 years old. It includes curricular and co-curricular activities
that enable students to develop responsibility and self-confidence,
effective communication and co-operation skills, time management
skills, study skills and the decision making skills essential for this
age. Additionally celebrations, physical activities, formal and
informal discussions take place as the opportunity arises. A healthy
and positive relationship between the students and teachers is
encouraged.
Math, English, Urdu, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography
and Computer Studies are the major subjects, supplemented by Religion,

Conscious
of the importance of continuity in education, PSI decided in the year
2000 to upgrade the school to Classes IX and X to include ‘O’ Levels. The
course of studies follows the University of Cambridge syllabus and
prepares the students to take the ‘O’ Level Examinations in two years
time. The two-year time frame may be extended by another year if a
student is not able to meet the required academic standard for the
examination.
The
course of studies includes the five compulsory subjects – English,
Urdu, Islamiat, Pakistan Studies and Math and a minimum of three
elective subjects from the range being offered. A highly inter-active
approach to learning is encouraged in the classroom through discussion
and group work complemented by regular written class and home
assignments. In Sciences, the learning process is supported by
investigation and demonstrations in each discipline.
In
addition to learning facts, logical thinking is encouraged through
inquiry and problem solving. Assessment is continuous and built in over
the two year period. Students are provided with an opportunity to
exercise their teaching skills in a primary classroom setting and
encouraged to display their leadership qualities in school and
community related activities.
The school is registered with the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate.
