Art & Craft
The arts programme at PSI introduces children to a variety of art materials and techniques during the weekly lessons. Art is integrated in the classroom with other subjects at every opportunity. Students’ work is displayed throughout the school and in the annual art exhibition to encourage expression and creative development. In the elementary classes, student’ art work is accumulated in a personal art folder. Needle craft includes knitting, crochet and embroidery and is offered to students from Class III upwards.
Music
Music skills covering both listening and performing are developed and enhanced in weekly music lessons. Beginning with singing rhymes in the elementary classes, students are gradually introduced to folk and classical music. They are provided with numerous opportunities to perform a variety of musical material throughout the year at weekly assemblies, important days and school functions.
Physical Education
This consists of exercise, ball games, team games, and athletics. Emphasis is laid on the social aspects such as teamwork, fair play and sportsman spirit. The Physical Education programme includes two/three games periods per week and a 1½ hour session once a week in the afternoon.
PSI has facilities on the premises for coaching students by a fully trained instructor in basketball, table tennis, badminton and other ball games. Indoor games like chess, checkers, carom board and scrabble are a substitute for rainy days. Other activities like cricket, hiking and swimming vary from year to year. Sports teams are organized on the basis of school houses and the culmination of year long sports activity is the Annual Sports Day, also called the 'Fathers' Day', which is held at the Islamabad Sports Complex.
Trips and Excursions
Field trips are an essential part of education at PSI and one of the highlights of the school’s academic and social programme. All classes go on field trips according to age and syllabus requirements. Senior classes may be taken out of city or abroad while younger students are usually taken on local trips subject to weather conditions. Since children’s security is the foremost consideration, provision is made for a suitable number of teachers and school staff to accompany the excursions. Signed parental permission is required for all field trips.
