PARENT-TEACHER MEETING
The
School holds at least three Parent-Teacher Meetings during an academic
session. These meetings are an opportunity for the parents and teachers
to get to know one another and to adopt measures that can best meet the
needs of the students. The strengths and weaknesses of the children are
identified and worked upon. The post Mocks meetings provide yet another
chance to know more about your child and the teachers who work with
him/her. Special handouts may be given on the meeting day regarding the
training and education of the child.
It
is mandatory for either or both parents to attend the Parent-Teacher
Meetings. In case this is not possible, parents should nominate another
person to attend such a meeting on their behalf. Parents are also
required to sign and enter their remarks on the sheets provided for
this purpose.
Individual
meetings between parents and teachers are encouraged. Appointments
should be made two days in advance. Such meetings are held in the
break, free periods or after school, thus not interfering with the
teachers' duty in class.
SPECIAL COACHING
It
is the school's policy to have two teachers per class of twenty-five
children at the elementary and primary levels. On account of this high
student-teacher ratio, students who are weak or lagging behind their
peers are immediately noticed. Special attention is then paid to the
slow ones through remedial classes and a modified syllabus. In this
way, they are gradually brought at par with their class fellows.
Special classes are arranged for new admissions during the summer
holidays.
As
PSI takes complete responsibility for the child's academic progress,
tuitions after school are strictly discouraged. It is unfair to expect
children to sit with private tutors for hours, when they already put in
a full day's work at school.
TEXTBOOK & STATIONERY
At
the beginning of the year textbooks, exercise books, stationery
itemsand art materials are supplied to all students at PSI. All
textbooks are the school's property and must be returned at the end of
the school year. Students are encouraged to take special care of their
text books and exercise books.
Text books are not provided by the school in Classes IX and X.
MIDDAY SNACK
All
students are served fresh snacks and drinks during recess. The snack is
prepared hygienically in the school kitchen by trained cooks under the
supervision of the administrative staff. The menu is carefully planned,
keeping in mind the nutritional needs as well as the taste preferences
of young children. A tandoor has been installed to give pupils a taste
of local cuisine. All drinking water at school is filtered.
Some
of the snacks and drinks served are Cup Cake and Milo, Chicken Pizza
and squash, Cinnamon Roll and milk, Roast Beef Sandwich and squash,
Popcorn.
The secondary school students are served lunch besides the midday snack because of their extended school hours.
LIBRARY
The
library is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Students are entitled to borrow books and make use of the school's
well-stocked library.
Library
activity teaches children a love of literature from the earliest
stages. Since the school encourages extensive reading, teachers do not
limit pupils to prescribed texts but encourage the use of a variety of
resources. Students make their weekly visit to the library to choose
books to take home. A note of the book and day of return is made in the
homework diary and the children are encouraged to look after books
issued to them. Classes Nursery to V also have their own class
libraries with appropriate selections. The senior classes are
encouraged to visit the library as often as possible. The aim is to
create good readers and writers.
Photocopying facilities are available.
The
Audio/Visual Library is used extensively in the course of teaching;
however, this resource is meant as an aid to education and not simply
for entertainment. The well-stocked video library includes a number of
series popular with children. The school also hires films from the
British Council and other sources to supplement the teaching of English
Literature, Geography and History.
SATURDAY SCHOOL
The
Saturday School offering three hours of planned activity is an
exclusive feature of PSI. It provides students with an extra curricular
programme designed to assist their physical, aesthetic and behavioural
development. Activities differ from time to time and may include
taekwondo, sports, singing, needlework, art & craft and cookery.
Attendance
at Saturday School is compulsory for all students from Class II to
Class VIII. Saturday School is not held on the first Saturday of each
month to enable parents and children to spend more time together on one
weekend in the month.
SYMPOSIUMS
The
students of PSI demonstrate their speaking power and their command of
the topic assigned in symposiums held at the school premises.
TALKS
& LECTURES
The
school hosts personalities who have excelled in their area of activity
for lectures on diverse subjects like law, architecture, history and
medicine. The lectures are followed by a question and answer session
involving the children, the staff and the guest speaker.
RELIGIOUS
& MORAL VALUES
At
PSI, religious and moral values are stressed at all levels. Children
are trained to respect the fundamental values - honesty, hard work,
perseverance, compassion, charity, tolerance, responsibility and
loyalty. The approach to religion is practical and a basic knowledge of
Islam is provided at all levels. The aim is to make the students
understand and be comfortable with their faith and to utilise their
knowledge effectively by applying it in their daily life.
FRIDAY
ASSEMBLY
The
Friday Assembly is a special routine in which activities like
recitation, elocution and singing are carried out in both languages.
Class presentations are encouraged and special days commemorated.
