Rules At School

Routines and rules for better interaction between parents and the school:

Punctuality

  1. Punctuality is of utmost importance at PSI. school starts at 7:50 am for Classes Transition – X.
  2. Pupils arriving after 8:00 am will be allowed in, but will be charged a fine of Rs 100/- per late-coming per child with the fee payment.

Attendance

Regular attendance is of prime significance. Whenever a child misses school on account of unavoidable circumstances, parents should not expect the teachers to go over the lessons missed when the child returns. Going over the lessons with the absent pupil depends upon the free time available to the teacher during the games and art periods or after school.

Leaves

  1. In case a child is sick with a minor illness, the school office should be informed.
  2. The child’s bag must be sent in the morning for homework and class work, latest by 9:30 am, and be collected form the school gate at home-going time.
  3. A written application must be sent with the child when he/she returns.
  4. In case of prolonged illness or when a child is suffering from a disease, a medical certificate will be required along with the written application.
  5. In case of an infectious disease, the doctor should certify that the contagious period is over.
  6. Applications for longer leaves in case of vacations, family weddings and other personal matters will have to be approved by the school management beforehand.
  7. Please note that in case children require an extended leave from school, a written application must be send to the school in advance.
  8. In case of long absences in Classes Transition to IV, getting the missed out work covered will not be the sole responsibility of the school. Though we will facilitate, it will be the parents’ responsibility to copy out the work from the classwork and homework diaries. For senior classes, the students themselves will be responsible for completion of missed out work.

Appointments

Please inform the school office any time you need to confer with your child’s teacher or the management concerning any issues. It is best not to discuss these in your child’s presence at home.
Please ensure that matters related to your child are not conveyed to the receptionist but discussed with the concerned management person only.

  1. Parents are required to inform the school office in advance in writing or though a phone call if a child is to be picked during school hours.
  2. An early pick-up slip will have to be signed by the person coming to collect the child.
  3. If new ayahs, driver or others are to come to collect the child, written permission from the parents must be submitted.

Staying Back

During the course of the year, there may be occasions e.g. rehearsals and practice sessions when pupils are required to stay back and will be asked to bring snacks and lunch from home. All lunch boxes/disposable bags should be clearly marked with the pupil’s name and class.

Discipline

  1. Our children are generally well-behaved and accept responsibility for their actions. They are trained to use the school facilities e.g. furniture, science / sports equipment and library books carefully. However, a fine will be charged for deliberate damage to stationery, equipment or school property.
  2. When classroom, school or playground rules are not followed, or when class assignments are incomplete or missing, the teacher will talk to the student about the problem. The student will serve detention during recess and the games period, and may be asked to do extra work. If the assigned work is not completed during school hours, the student will have to stay back after school. The school will not call the parents in such situations and the car will have to wait till the work is completed.
  3. Extreme cases of misconduct will be reported to the parents and the following measures will be taken (the level of the seriousness of the act will be determined by the principal in consultation with the school faculty).
  4. The student will undergo in-house suspension during which he / she will be separated form the class and placed under the supervision of academic coordinators. He / she will be assigned additional work during recess or after school and excluded from games and activity periods.
  5. Upon completion of the in-house suspension period, the student will be placed on probation which means that the student will be allowed to rejoin his / her class. Exclusion from recess, games and activity periods will however continue. In this period, his / her academic performance and behaviour will be closely monitored.
  6. If a student fails to show an improvement in behaviour after these measures, he / she will be suspended from school for a specified number of days and a warning letter issued.
  7. Any act of indiscipline after the issuance of three warnings will be dealt with seriously and may lead to expulsion from school.

Parents will be informed of the disciplinary measures at each step and may be called for special meetings at any stage.

Late Fee Payments

If case the school free is not paid by the due date, late payment charges will be applicable. A circular regarding rates will follow.

First Aid

  1. PSI is equipped to deal with minor health problems like colds, fevers etc. or with bruises, cuts and pain caused by minor accidents during school hours.
  2. In case of emergency, parents will be contacted immediately.
  3. Minor cuts and injuries at home should be looked into by parents so that the child is not with the nurse in the early part of the day.

Birthdays

  1. Birthday parties can be celebrated at school on request. The school office should be informed of the party at least one day in advance. Parents are required to bring the eatables and giveaways for the child’s class. The party is held during recess and is supervised by school staff. The giveaways are distributed at homegoing time.
  2. If a birthday party is to be celebrated at the house, invitations may be distributed in school only when all children in the class are invited. Distribution of invitations from school is not allowed otherwise. This rule is enforced to prevent the children left out from being upset. The list of children in class can be made available by the school office.

Emergency Measures

A crisis management team consisting of senior students and teachers reviews arrangements to cope with situations arising out the emergencies like fire, earthquake or bomb threat. Evacuation drills involving all the children are carried out at random.
